Reflecting on 2025 and rethinking the future of cyber resilience in 2026

As we begin the new year, let’s take some time to reflect on 2025 and take a look at the year ahead. In 2025, businesses faced a wide range of challenges related to data protection, especially IT teams responsible for safeguarding corporate data.

As market trends leaned towards strategies such as the 3-2-1-1-0 backup policy and disaster recovery to cyber recovery (DR to CR) methods, we introduced Synology ActiveProtect in 2025 as a way for businesses to consolidate and simplify data protection.

ActiveProtect is an integrated, purpose-built backup appliance that unifies data management, security, and scalability so that businesses can manage their data in one place, protect against ransomware with advanced security features, reliably restore data when needed, and scale flexibly as data needs change.

However, in 2026, several challenges continue to plague businesses. Many corporations are grappling with cloud disaster recovery, centralized hybrid workload protection, and data recovery challenges, in addition to threats from AI-powered ransomware, and more.

As the trend of hybrid cloud solutions continue to grow, Synology ActiveProtect will support more cloud-based platforms, enabling organizations to back up their hybrid cloud data safely. Create a multi-cloud disaster recovery strategy to ensure quick and seamless data recovery.

In addition, we aim to further bolster ActiveProtect’s ransomware defense capabilities. In 2026, Synology ActiveProtect will ensure backups remain secure and accurate to enable clean data restores. This empowers organizations to monitor the status of their backups and identify if backups have been tampered with or compromised by ransomware.

Businesses need to fortify their defenses to ensure that backups are clean, have not been tampered with, and have a clean copy available for data recovery purposes when needed.
