As you may already know that the AFP & Time Machine in the latest Mac OS X 10.7 Lion does not support 3rd-party NAS with old version of Netatalk, which means you can no longer use your NAS as a backup device for use with Apple’s Time Machine, or as a dedicated AFP file server. Fortunately, these issues have been addressed in our DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.2 beta which will work with all existing Synology DiskStations released in 2008 or later.
For Synology DiskStations released in 2007 and before which are already out of DSM upgrade service, we decided to release a special DSM version for Synology x07-series DiskStations, specifically addressing the incompatibility issue with AFP & Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. This will ensure our customers continue to enjoy their Synology DiskStations and not being punished by simply upgrading their Mac OS X.
It is now scheduled to be available for free download around mid-August. Please stay tuned.
For those of you who have already encountered these issues, it is suggested to use Samba file transfer service as the temporarily solution.

Even though I don’t have an apple based OS, this is a very generous decision on the part of Synology.
So well done..
Do anybody think Synology will support WebOS soon
Hi James,
WebOS is in our radar. =)
Still on your radar?
Hi. I see all mentioned problems wiith the missing of the .pat installation file is connected to the MAC user. I have a PC with XP SP2. Synology assistant requires .pat file to install the disk station. (First time set up of DS 211).
I have unzipped an installed Synology assistant. I have tried once to unzip all, and once to only unzip the setup program. Any ideas how to proceed?
Hi Hogest,
What you need is simply running the installer of Synology Assistant 3.2 and completing the setup wizard. Afterward, you could run Synology Assistant and setup your DS211.
This is exactly wy Synology is the very best NAS compagny on the market for me !
Thanks so much to think about your customers like that.
All geeks loves updates, but you always add some incredible stuff every time you update the DSM.
This is wy i’m buying a brand new DS2411+ today
) and installed 5 NAS of synology in my family.
JB
Thank you very much for your support of all systems. Still, I think it would be just fair to also pay for what you are using. The Netatalk-team recently made clear that they rely on paying users of their software: http://www.netafp.com/open-letter-to-the-netatalk-community-501/
You are not listed as a customer: http://www.netafp.com/customers/
Or how GPL licensed software becomes a hostage of for-profit developers
http://www.matthewgkeller.com/blog/2011/07/07/open-response-to-open-letter-to-the-netatalk-community/
Why would Synology pay for a component licensed under the GPL? furthermore, Synology uses that component on a free-of-charge software on fully compliancy of the GPL rules.
Have synology ever charged for the DSM Major updates? no.
Thanks for this solution.
I didn’t buy Synology NAS products to be only 3 years-life products. So, from my point of view, it is a minimum solution.
Kind regards,
CD.
wow!
thank you very much.
rolf
It’s actually a 4 year life cycle on DSM updates.
if you buy 7 as soon as it came out and bought the 11 when it came out.
7-8 = 1
8-9 = 2
9-10 = 3
10-11 = 4
or simply 11 – 7 = 4.
You are right Skar on the numbers. Maximum 4 years life cycle if you buy the product when it is just coming out… However, it is not the case for me as i wait for tests and reviews before buying.
Finaly it doesn’t change the fact that it is short, very short life-cycle for a NAS and if you want to keep an updated NAS (facing security or compatibilty issues), you need to change the hardware. Such a waste…
Really appreciate the continue support. I will continue to recommend Synology products to others.
@CD
I think maybe Synology need to view DSM updates in 2 ways.
1. New features. I am personally fine with a 4 year life cycle on my purchases for new features. If I look back at the changes that have happened since my DS106 DSM and the DSM I now apply to my DS411+, it’s vast. I also recognise that the older boxes may not have the horsepower to run the newer features.
2. Maintaining compatibility. Here I think you are correct and maybe it’s what Synology recognised with the new mac OS issue. They have to keep the basic’s of the system working. Otherwise it invalidates as you rightly said, any long term purchases in Synology kit.
I use my hardware for personal use and am a lot more relaxed about it, but if I was looking at it with my business procurement head on, then that’s a different ball game and I would be a lot more hard nosed about it.
This is really great news for all of us still happily using our x07 Synology boxes!
I didn’t switch to Lion yet, as this is one of the biggest reasons for me not to upgrade to Lion.
I almost panicked until I found this blog post. Thanks for not leaving x07 users behind, Synology! You will keep me as a customer for this.
Thank you =)
I’ve downloaded the pat file for 3.2 beta, but don’t know how to run it via my mac?
Any help is really appreciated (realise it may be simple, but I don’t know how as mac just brings up box saying no application that can run pat file).
Cheers
John
Hi John,

Please install the DSM 3.2 Beta DSM_[model_name]_1869.pat file in DiskStation Manager > Control Panel > DSM Update, and upload the .pat to update your DiskStation to DSM 3.2 beta.
Much appreciated news
Two thumbs for taking the extra step in doing the right thing for your customers!
Hi,
Question: Did I understood it right that there are problems to install a Synology DS211j with the latest MAC OS X Lion update?
I updateted the Lion software approximatly 2weeks ago and bought my first Synology 2 bay DS last Saturday. I could not even download the latest installation Update. No chance to open the pat. format.
Will it work with the Next update mid August?
THX for your answer in reply
Frisi
Hi Frisi,
If you’d like to use DS211j with you Mac computer with OS X Lion, please install the .pat file in your DiskStation Manager > Control Panel > DSM Update, and upload the .pat to update your DS211j to DSM 3.2.
Thanks a lot Synology !
That is exactly why I always recommend Synology to my friends, it’s maybe a bit more expensive, but updates and technical service is really really good !
I already contacted them many times, and they always found me the solution, and in the worst case 6 days after asking !!!
Hi Tinken,
Thank you. We wouldn’t like to keep you waiting though. We would quicken the process of handling customer support tickets. =)
Hi Darren,
a great idea nor only to support DS hardware in terms of AFP & Time Machine back to the 2008 models, but even for the 2007 mdels (I have three DS107+ running with my customers). Thank you very much for that.
My question here is:
Is Synology prepared to cooperate with the Netatalk project when versions of Netatalk higher than 2.2b4 and finally 2.2 become available?
Having been responsible for the purchase of a number of Synology DiskStations by my customers (and supporting mostly Macs as a client platform there) I’d really appreciate that, too.
Keep up the excellent work!
Regards,
Walter.
The beta does not work. Not only can I now not use Time Machine, I cannot access any files on the 1511+ NAS.
Need to release an update and the final version real soon – we Mac users are getting left in the dust with lots of data that is no longer getting backed up…
Hi Luke,
I am sorry for your situation. Please fill a support form and our support will solve your problem.
Hi!
I have a synology DS 710+. I have a an Imac and use time machine to backup my data. After updating to osx lion, I don`t get my backups because it can`t find my nas-disk.
If I get it right here, that`s the problem listed here. Can I download the DSM 3,2 Beta or do I have to wait to mid august?
How do I do it?
You can install DSM 3.2 beta on your DS710+. The release in mid Augest will address with x07 model.
Well this has just made my mind up, after buy sending back TWO NAS drives from other companies who told me on the phone “we really don’t know if we update our firmware to work with Lion” I will be ordering a Synology DS211j 2-bay in the next few days! Thanks Synology.
Two Q, how stabile is the Beta and what date is the 3.2 to be available?
Just to know, are you supporter of Netafp development ? I did no see you on on the support page ?
http://www.netafp.com/customers/
Does it means you are using beta version ?
Hope to see you on the support page soon and be more involved in the AFP development as a many of yours customers are on OSX
Thanks in advance
SquareCube
Is it the Synology Assistant I shall use in order to upload dsm 3.2 beta? I tried yesterday, but my Imac and time machine still can`t find my nas 710+ ….
How do I do it?
Hi Lindland,

Please install the DSM 3.2 Beta DSM_[model_name]_1869.pat file in DiskStation Manager > Control Panel > DSM Update, and manually install the .pat to update your DiskStation to DSM 3.2 beta.
I`ve fixed it now! Thanks:)
Hi Darren,
I just bought a DS411 today (yep plain DS411, not the DS411+ or DS411+II) and i can’t find any support links on the synology website or a link for the DSM 3.2beta. Bit of a problem for me as two of my 3 macs are already running OS X 10.7.
I can’t even send a support request because it doesn’t even recognize the serial number of my DiskStation!
Thanks
Raj,
We are arranging DS411 on our website and it should be available in the near future. In the meantime, please e-mail us product@synology.com and I would arrange a support window to contact you. Thank you.
Hi,
I have the DS411+ II and can not use Time Machine backup after upgrading to OSX Lion, I’ve applied the beta version of the update so I can access the files, just can’t perform a backup.
Just wondering if this is normal with the beta version of the update?
Cheers,
Cuong.
I am using a DS211J … and using it with my LION based iMac and Mac Book Pro … both 2010 models.
Have upgraded to the 3.2 Beta and whilst my Pro is finding the NAS and backing up fine, my iMac cannot see it at all … settings are identical as fas as I can see, and both were fine before Installed Lion.
Anyone have any ideas?
N
I purchased a new CS407e in April 2009 from a reputable online store in the UK; it is therefore just over 2 years old. I do not consider this device too old to be supported fully by Synology and therefore I would expect OS X Lion to be fully supported as a matter of course, and not as a special one-off to appease customers as this TimeMachine fix looks to be. Calculating when to end support based on when a product was first released, as opposed to when it was withdrawn is the wrong way round and not industry standard. If Synology wish to forge a positive name for themselves then they had better improve their game and stop trying to deflect their obligations simply because it suits them.
David,
It’s not from date of purchase, that these things are decided, it’s the year of design, which in your case is 2007. You can’t base support upon purchase dates, beyond the warranty agreement, which merely covers the failure of the device.
So if in 2009 you decided to buy a model that had been sitting on a shelf for 2 years, then I assume that you got it at a better price, then if you had bought it 2 years earlier.
Skar,
When I bought my CS407e it was still the current model. The replacement, the DS408 was not released until August 2008 (http://www.synology.com/support/news.php?lang=enu&news_id=178). I therefore purchased the current model and regardless of whether or not it had sat on a shelf for 2 years (unlikely) I was not buying deprecated technology.
I stand by all my previous comments; ceasing support should based on a point some time after the end of production, not when it was first introduced. Unless this is the case a buyer can have no confidence that they have more than a year of two of supported life. I don’t think you will be able to get away with this in the corporate world. I work for a software vendor and I can tell you that surety of maintenance and support for a fixed period is mandatory.
I’m afraid this means Synology are unlikely to be on my list for personal and professional purchasing in the future; you’re too high risk.
Regards – David
David,
My apologies. You raise a good point about the end of production, not start of production being the support period baseline.
Regardless of your experience it’s still good kit, with excellent software. There aren’t that many matching alternatives out there and Synology did recognise the issue and rolled out a change for the 07s.
I thought to check a lot of software before upgrading to Lion, but never thought my Synology would be a problem. I have the 207+ since september ’08 (I’m not sure if I could already get the x08 models then), not having been warned in any way that Synology would only support their hardware for a limited amount of time.
If I *had* thought about it, I would have guessed hardware would be supported as long as it could run software technically (i.e. the hardware has sufficient memory and processor speed).
I upgraded my synology this morning to dsm3.1 (I followed the steps on the website), but since it still wouldn’t work I got to this page.
So am I to understand that 3.1 is the latest firmware for me (apart from the special one-off)? That would (unfortunately, because I love almost everything about my Synology) be a serious incentive for me to look for another way of backing up and centralising my data…
Guess there’s nowt to do but wait
Did you ever get an answer to this? I’m in the same boat – upgraded a 207+ to 3.1 and now am having problems with client computers running 1.6 *and* 10.7. Am really hoping there’s a way around this other than buying a new unit!
its really good news for the x07 users, but so far there’s no news on the USB Station 2. We too need the DSM 3.2!
*cough*was it mid-august you said? that’s two more days!*cough*
Hope to hear some good news soon
I also would like to see these news for USB Station 2.
Please Synology, don’t leave us further behind! We (ie. US2 owners) are already waiting for DSM 3.2 …
Any News on the upcoming DSM 3.2 GM? Today is mid august
To be true, I would have appreciated it if Synology released a minor upgrade first, fixing the AFP/Netatalk stuff for Lion, while focusing on the lots of other awesome features for the next major version later.
Considering the fact the Apple provided betas quite some time ago, the delay is a bit disappointing to me. Now we seem a bit in a hurry.
Hallo Synology Team, I really appreciate your product, but how long i have to wait to let my 3 serier xx7 synology nas back to work with my Lion??? this is becoming a little bit not funny. I have some job pending! And i don’t want to spend money for a new nas at the moment.
Have a nice day
Max
Anyone? hello!
Hi Everyone,
We are preparing the release and you will see it very very soon… =)
This is a very good news!
I am realy keen on implementing my new DS211 to my Mac environment.
Regards
Markus
Very very soon
What is “very very soon”
What is very very soon, this week?
Hi Darren
Will we see the release of the DSM3.2 very very soon or only the Lion Support fix for older models?
Cheers
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
OS X Lion support has been available if you install DSM 3.2 beta, and you will be prompted to upgrade to DSM 3.2 official when it comes out. I believe you won’t wait for too long for that.
Hi Darren
Hmmm beta is beta
I trust you guys but as I’m looking forward to migrate a stable/production env. I’ll wait for the final release.
You say it will be released very very soon, can you tell me if it will be today? So my weekend planing changes then
Cheers
Thomas
While Lion support for x07 is to be applauded, as an owner of a CS407, I would also like to see CS407 get a few additional features. The CS407 (128MB, based on the mv5281) is a higher model than the CS407e (64MB, based on mpc8241). However, the mpc8241 models with even as little as 32MB memory such as the DS108J/DS109J will received LDAP directory support. The CS407e will also receive packages such as LDAP server, Syslog server, VPN server while the CS407 will miss out on those. Owners of the CS407 paid a premium over the CS407e and deserves better.
Hi All,
The DSM update for OS X Lion has been released to the web. Enjoy it.
Hi Darren
Cool. Can you also say when the DSM3.2 will be released? I’m looking forward to migrate to my brand-new ds3611xs
Cheers
Thomas
You don’t have permission to access /download/DiskStation/DSM3.1/1632/DSM_DS107+_1632.pat on this server.
On all links
Its now online THX
Well, sorry for that. It works now.
Using the DSM 3.1 Update function says, still the actual version on the machine, no way to download 3.2
Perfect! Now it works just fine. Both to download from synology.com and directly via built in DSM-update. Thank you for the extra DSM release for my 207+ =)

Hi Tord,
For other models later than 07 series, it is possible to install DSM 3.2 beta now and DSM 3.2 official release when it comes out.
Hi Darren,
I am wondering if there would be DSM 3.2 firmware for x07 series ? Or x07 firmware support will just be stopped at version DSM 3.1 ?
Well Darren, a Beta is a Beta and what I know, Mr. Murphy is still alive. So I will have to suffer with my Mac until 3.2 is out then
Hi Darren,
so there is no DSM 3.2 final out for DS411+II?
Where do I get the DSM Update for DS411+II? There is nothing to download.
Thank you. Downloading now…
What model, Rafa?
Synology talks about a Mac-friendly solution. That’s great but what about HFS+ support on a external USB drive on, let’s say, a ds-211 in DSM 3.2?
QNap has this supported so it’s not so difficult I would say.
Can you give us a comment on that please because this is a request on the support forum for years.
Thank you
Is it really that hard to port the AFP/Netatalk changes from the x07 series as a minor and stable DSM 3.1 release to recent models?
The current situation keeps all your Apple customers who want to use their Time Machine with Synology NAS devices from being able to upgrade to Lion, unless they want to use an unstable beta version of DSM, of course.
To me, the wiser decision would lead to a minor release *now* with DSM 3.2 coming out later (as in “when it’s ready”), giving you all the time you need to implement and test all the new awesomeness I’m sure you guys are working on.
For now, the AFP/Netatalk thing is a really annoying show stopper which shouldn’t have to wait for a fix, but should not force you to push out a weak first DSM 3.2 release to soon, too.
But I keep repeating myself, so just: Pleaaaaaaaaase.
(And also this sounded a bit like a rant: Keep up the good work! After all, I’m pretty satisfied with my DS211+.)
I agree with you, Jens.
3.2 with all its cool, new features will be a real burner and I am already looking forward to it.
But right now, I have real concerns with the lack of backup on my Apple Systems running Lion.
3.1.X now, which fixes the AFP stuff… and then somewhere in time… a nice smooth 3.2 with a christmas tree of new things to play with.
Give me the good, secured feeling again, give me 3.1 now, which lets my Lions back up their stuff.
helaron
Hi everyone,
First of all thanks Synology for taking care of my DS107e. Very much appreciate your efforts to keep the product compatible with Lion!
Trouble is, I updated yesterday and NAS access as well as Time Machine was working fine the whole day. Turning my computer on today, I am back to square one. Error massage as before
Time Machine link broken. Very wried!
Anyone experiencing the same issue?
Tom
I upgraded my 1511+ NAS to the DSM 3.2 beta to get TimeMachine working and it still does not work for me either.
I submitted a bug fix request, I just hope the fix makes it to the final release
Hi Darren
Is Synology planning any support for Windows Phone 7? Instead of putting my pictures and business documents on Skydrive I hope to keep them on my own Synology servers. Really hope the support is coming soon!
Mike
Doesn´t your phone have a file browser so you can connect via WebDav?
I have a Nokia E6 and I am using the built in filebrowser inside the Nokia for the that kind of things that you asking for. Works indeed very good.
To collect and transfer files to/from the Synology server I am using the webdav port system, so to say.
Working like a charm with https port 5006.
Don´t your phone have a file browser inside?
I don’t understand, why Synology supports only the Mac/Apple part. WP7 is for mango such a intelligent and good OS. There is an unofficial audio station app, but not so handsome. And the Photostation over the new HTML 5 Explorer is not usable. Please make an effort and support Windows Phone 7. Thanks a lot!
We know Windows Phone is getting popular and we are consider it now:)
Thumbs up for this news…
SynoDownload application for WindowsPhone can manage the DownloadStation.
I am in touch with the developer and he told me that he is going to create a file explorer app for Synology server.
Is is still under consideration or are there plans of building apps for WP7 ?
It’s been mid-August, can you give us a date when 3.2 will be released? I’d rather not install beta-software for something that’s managing all my data, but going for a good month without backups is also kind of teasing Murphy
I’ve upgraded my211+ to the last beta 3.2 version and Time machine still does not work with Lion : AFP protocol not fully supported …
Seems to me tha 3.2 is still not ready for Lion.
Any comment from the Synology team ?
thks
Marc
Hi Everyone,
Your voices are heard. We made every effort to deliver DSM 3.2 official release on time and with quality, including the most anticipated feature – support Mac OS X Lion. In the meantime we did comprehensive tests to make sure that everything works before we announce it to the public. If you are waiting for official release, you can expect it to be ready in 2 weeks. We are at the final stage for DSM 3.2 official release, and we will do our best to bring it to you and all our customers as early as possible. Thanks for your support and your patient.
For those who encounters any problem in DSM 3.2 beta, please feel free to contact our support team and we would gladly help you for the issues.
Good to know that the official update will be out in 2 weeks. How soon though will the update be out in retail? I’d like to purchase a DS1511+ with the latest 3.2 firmware to avoid having to run the update. I’ve been holding off a purchase simply because I’ve been waiting for Lion compatibility.
It has been quite a long wait, but Synology deserves praise for being responsive to the Mac community.
I have a DS211J and have been using it as a media server for music and photos. I have an iMac 2.7Ghz core i5 OS X 10.7 and a macbook pro 2.4Ghz Core i5 OS X 10.7. I just upgraded both my machines Lion and have now stumbled upon what everyone else has known for a couple months. How can I update the disk stations software so that Lion will play nicely with it. I am not worried about time machine back ups, I use the disk station to store my music and photos and need iTunes to be able to access library on the disk station.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
Just upgraded my DS211j to DSM 3.2 to try to get it working with Lion on my brand new iMac and recently upgraded to Lion MacMini (2010). Neither works with Time Machine – message says network storage not compatible with AFP. Seems like a few of us have DS211j issues specifically. Any comment from Synology team?
We Listen. We Care. And We Answer.
Would Synology please Care and Answer the following problem. Upgraded to DSM 3.2. All is fine, except the disk in the NAS keeps spinning all the time. This is a very annoying bug. Disk is wearing out faster and hibernation does not work anymore.
Please Synology, care and solve this problem quickly.
Hi fino,
I have confirmed with our developers and the issue that Media Server preventing DiskStation to enter hibernation mode is fixed in upcoming DSM 3.2 official release. Thank you.
Hi,
Been waiting for the official release to come out so I can access my server from Lion. I’ve been using a SL computer as an intermediate and it’s getting annoying…
So when is DSM 3.2 official release happening? I thought it was mid-end Aug? It’s one day til end of Aug
Thx=.
I updated my 207+ to DSM 3.1-1632 and now my Lion time machine starts but keeps on disconnecting after 2 gig/5min. Anybody experiencing this?
Yes, after the upgrade I’m having trouble on client machines running 10.6 *and* 10.7. Did you ever find a solution?
Hi King,
Would you submit a support form so that our technical support specialist will contact you and solve your problems
Dear all,
I used my DS211j to backup the files of my previous Laptop, which run on Windows 7. This worked fine.
Recently, I changed to MacBookPro and Mac X Lion. Even after installing DSM 3.2 beta, my new backup folder on the DS211j is not recognized by TimeMaschine.
Does anybody know, how to solve this issue? Do I need a special script?
Thanks, Armin
continuation of the former paragraph (Armin: DS211j and OS X Lion):
meanwhile TimeMachine is able to detect the backup folder on the DS211j, but once elected, the following message appears (translated from German):
‘TimeMachine was not able to create the backup. The image of the backup-volumes
VOLUMES/BACKUP_FOLDER_NAME-1/COMPUTERNAME.SPARSEBUNDLE
could not be created (error 28).’
There is no BACKUP_FOLDER_NAME-1, but only one denominated BACKUP_FOLDER_NAME (w/o ‘-1′). If you create a folder with the name BACKUP_FOLDER_NAME-1, the error message changes accordingly:
VOLUMES/BACKUP_FOLDER_NAME/COMPUTERNAME.SPARSEBUNDLE.
Could anyone (Darren?) tell me, how to overcome this problem?
I love my DS211j and I do not want to exchange it for a TimeCapsule….
Thanks a lot, Armin

Hi all,
I have a ds 411+ii (June 2011) with about 1.5TB of data. How I can I search my files?
- The synology file browser returns “There are no shared folders available …”. When I click OK to create shared folders, my 8 shared folders appear. The file station also does not show the 8 folders. I must have missed a step in setting up the folders?
- On my MacBook/OS Lion neither spotlight nor finder can search for files on my connected synology. Is there a way to find files on synology via spotlight or finder?
- I can go along the file structure in finder and look into all the sub-folders to find a file
Thanks, Robert

Hi All,
Just an announcement DSM 3.2 official release should be ready this week. =)
Can someone tell me if the new DSM 3.2 will allow the DS211J to act as a media server again for my new iMac running lion? I have a ton of music on the server and can’t do anything with it at this point.
Will v3.2 be compatible/installable on a DS209?
Timemachine works fine now using DSM 3.2. Problem I have is with ChronoSync on OSX Lion, it stops backup data without any error message, and examining with the system monitor it seems that there are problems with the access of some files. Because of all that Samba and AFP problems with OSX I am not sure if it is a problem of OSX Lion, Synology 3.2 or the Backup-Software.
Just purchased DS411 and hooked it up. The Status LED keeps blinking. Synology Assistance is not blocked by Windows firewall (i checked), the LAN LED is green and all 4 HDD are green. Please advice on what needs to be done.
Thanks,
Lawrence
Hi Lawrence,
Please contact our support team by filing a support form here and your problem will be solved.
I own a D207+ and I am using the Lion OS. I have problems with the time machine and (it looks like most of the time) I can not access my files on my NAS via finder.
I upgraded my NAS with DSM3.1. Problems should be solved with the use of DSM3.2. Unfortunately there is no upgrade to DSM3.2 for the D207+. When will this be available?
In our office we use the Server DS410. I just updated to Lion OS and now am unable to access all my files from the Server. I get the message:

Is it possible that our DS410-Server needs to be updated? Is there any way around this problem? I’m not able to access any of my files!!! (I work directly from the Server instead of using the hard drive on the computer.)
What does our “System Adminstrator” have to do to get this working for me. I’m the only one in the office who works with MAC and our Administrator deals mostly with Windows, so I will really need to help tell her what she needs to do to get this problem solved.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi team,
I am struggling with my attempt to get a 210j (latest DSM 3.2) used for Lion server as a Time Machine resource. Lion server doesn’t see the shared folder under TM service provided by the 210j but Lion client does see it and could use it. Do you have an idea what is wrong with my current Lion server setup?
Thanks
best regards
Scott I have had a similar issue as well after updating DSM..I have tried repeatedly to access the admin as well as other accounts and cannot through the log in page. I did find however that if I connect to the log in page then leaving that open and connecting again it bypasses the log in page and opens DSM. It doesn’t seem to secure but was a way in and I had other issues that I was trying to resolve. My biggest issue is while working on a mew machine with Windows 7 I can no longer access the drives on the server for editing. In the network window the server shows up only as a media device and does not see the drives. Any clues to resolve this?
Please add exFAT support for external drives
I intend to purchase the RS812 rack station for home use. I saw that only a few switches on the Synology Support site were tested and the Link Aggregation works. I have a DLink DGS-1216T at home. Will this switch be compaitble, will it work but at much slower speed or will it not work at all? Thanks for help

I am using A DS412+ with a RAID 1 config currently with 2 disks only. It has DSM 4.0-2198 installed. On my iMac Snow Leopard with V 10.6.8 is installed (not even Lion yet!).
When copying files from an USB stick connected to the iMac onto a Shared folder on the DS412+ some files cannot be copied when the connection is done using the “devices” pane in OSX finder (error -36 and copy aborted). I assume this connection is AFP (per default). When I connect using “Go To Server” and explicitly prefix the server address with “smb://…” the very same files can be copied without any problem. I have exactly the same problem when copying the files from the stick to the iMac locally first and then trying to copy the files from the iMac’s local harddisk to the DS412+ (so its not the stick or the USB connection).
Now for the fun part: after having copied the files successfully using smb (cifs) I can see them “completetly normal” using the smb finder connection to the share. When I additionally open a connection using afp (clicking on the “shared” device in the finder pane) pointing to the same share, I only get aliases (not the files) listed for the recently copied files. I can’t copy these aliases back to the iMac (Error -50 in finder). I can, however, copy them back using the (still open) smb connection.
Does DSM 4.0 have a problem with AFP in general? Again: this is not Lion, it is not about time machine, just plain copying of files from an OSX SL iMac to an “AFP folder” on the DS412+… Thanks for any help.
Hi, I’ve forwarded your to our developers for investigation. We shall get back to you soon.
I have a ds212j dsm4.0 2219
I have successfully setup port fowarding and ddns. I can logon from my android cell using ie or firefox into audiostation, but recieve this error when i select play”To properly streaming music, please install adobe flash player ver 9 or onward”. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash 11.0 several times the result is the same, I’ve lowered internet security, modfiied Trusted Zone security, same issue. I can play songs via ds audio when connected wireless(home network) do you have a solution for this? I’ve seen posts from 2010 and no one from Synology has provided or posted a solution to this problem. I ‘ve submitted 2 Support requests and no one from Synology has responeded!!! When can I expect a solution this this problem?
